Be smart, play brilliant, and pickup craps the proper way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed down south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A few think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
